2010 Jonghe Water Festival

 

Every year April 13 is Thailand's new year, altogether has three days, this section of period also is Thailand once a year the happiest joyful holiday. In this time, the Thai usually by mutually "splashes water" celebrates, therefore is called the water-sprinkling festival. Burma, Laos and Cambodia also all simultaneously celebrate this holiday. Water-splashing festival celebrated in Taiwan

 

Taipei, April 11 (CNA) The water-splashing festival, called Songkran in Thai, was held in northern Taiwan's Zhonghe, Taipei County and Taoyuan City on Sunday.

Songkran is the Burmese New Year calendar, in Myanmar, Thailand, Laos and Cambodia, are celebrating the holiday. The significance of splashing water is to pray for good luck, who was the most wet of water poured, the more luck too.(sourceCNA News  2010/04/11 20:54:27)

Thai laborers splash in the New Year

 

Known as Thingyan in Burmese and Songkran in Thai, the water festival is believed to be a derivation of Hindu water purification rites. The festival has now taken on Buddhist significance in Thailand and Myanmar.(sourceThe Taipei Times)
