Chiayi Regional Revitalization: A Forum on Resource Linkage and Technology Matching at NCYU, a Local Think Tank
Organized by the Office for Academia-Industry Collaboration and Continuing Education, National Chiayi University, “Chiayi Regional Revitalization: A Forum on Resource Linkage and Technology Matching” took place on the Linsen campus on April 26th at 9:00 a.m. The event was organized with joint effort of Plus One Innovation, dedicated to regional revitalization. Representatives from 31 famous colleges and universities nationwide and enterprise incubators in the corporate world were invited to sign two cooperation memoranda on “Incubation Alliance, I.A.” and “Alliance of Southern Taiwan Innovation and Entrepreneurship Centers.” The memoranda are expected to bring more dynamism to small and medium enterprises, and drive regional revitalization. By pooling together advantages and strengths of wide-ranging partners, they hoped to constitute a comprehensive counseling network that effectively helps solve various problems that might be encountered in business settings.
In terms of commercial technology, presentations on products and technologies that meet market needs in the short-to-medium term were given by eight NCYU teachers who have contributed their part to develop prospective technologies. Presenters included Tung Che-Huang from the Department of Aquatic Biosciences, Weng Ting-Sheng from the Department of Business Administration, Yang Huai-Wen and Luo Ji-Yo from the Department of Food Science, Zhu Jian-Song from the Department of Biomechatronic Engineering, Mong Liang from the Department of Applied Chemistry, Guo Wei-Ru from the Department of Horticultural Science, and Huang Wen-Lu from the Department of Biomechatronic Engineering. They exchanged ideas and views with the representatives from the industrial and business sectors. Tung’s presentation on “Artificial Propagation and Seedling Culture Technology of Hemifusus tuba” was one of the most well-received. As a high-price aquatic product, Hemifusus tuba is known for its high market potential and has been sold to various restaurants in Taiwan, where people have a preference for shellfish. It is highly possible for it to be exported worldwide. There had been no aquaculture of the species at home due to a lack of technology. It is hoped that, with wider adoption of aquaculture technology, the yields for farmers might be increased.
The forum also featured a presentation on “RTK: An Unmanned Plant Protection Machine,” a result of academic-industrial collaboration between NCYU and Kunway-Tech, incubated by Plus One Innovation. The machine features a precise usage and cost-saving kit. The grand event acted as a platform for idea sharing to ensure better cooperation, and accelerate the effectiveness of academic-industrial cooperation. It also provided a platform for matching patents with commercial benefits and promoting intellectual property, allowing the teachers to further commercialize their research results from academic-industrial cooperation, thus establishing NCYU as a local think tank.
According to Vice President Chu Chi-Shih, a great number of professors from different departments of NCYU are dedicated to academic research in their own fields. And some of their research and development results are very likely to be commercialized. With the forum as a catalyst, they hoped to encourage the teachers to be involved in industrial development, so that their hard-earned outcomes of research and development could be applied for practical use in the industry. It not only helps facilitate the improvement of our industrial technology, but creates a win-win situation for both the industry and academia. There was also a workshop for outstanding enterprise incubation centers. Jointly organized with the Small and Medium Enterprise Administration, Ministry of Economic Affairs, the workshop offered opportunities for the participants to share ideas and learn from each other, making the event all the more fruitful.
