NCYU President Chiou Yi-Yuan together with the VIP opening giant egg 2014 World Eggs Day in NCYU

This year’s World Eggs Day festival organized by Department of Animal Science was held from December 13th 10:00 a.m. to December 14th 4:00 p.m. in the Chiaho Gymnasium and Student Activity Square of Lantan Campus, NCYU. Game tickets were given to visitors to participate in various challenges that promote information of egg products through visual, gustatory, and tactile experiences. After passing all the challenges, participants can win lucky draw prizes and exchange free gift bags in information center with the ticket. The number of gift bags is limited, so act quickly!

Wang Cheng-Teng, Deputy Minister of the Council of Agriculture of the Executive Yuan, said that eggs are the most perfect and natural food source given by Mother Nature. Even the egg shell is created naturally. Eggs not only incubate new life but provide rich nutrients and protein at very affordable price. Egg producers should prioritize egg safety and provide quality eggs for consumption.

NCYU President Chiou Yi-Yuan mentioned that this year’s event was special because it came with a book titled “The Big World of Little Eggs” published by the Department especially for the event. Written in the form of questions and answers and with vivid illustrations, the book promotes important facts about safety of eggs and egg products in our daily lives through lucid writing by egg experts.

Besides showing the eggs’ types, origin, incubation, raising, application and the process of cleaning and grading, an area was reserved for a petting zoo where common poultry, turkeys and rare birds are kept. Various artworks of eggshell painting and carvings were also displayed. Corporations and industries were invited to showcase their egg products and applications during the event.

All the departments and school clubs were mobilized for the event, combining their respective features with eggs to create egg-themed designs and exhibitions. Visitors can vote their favorite and winner will receive awards. There are also hands-on activities that allow participants to create their own version of egg candles, eggshell mosaic frames, animal eggs, egg rolls, and waffles. Visitors not only gained knowledge of eggs but were able to enjoy the food and activities during the process. The grand event proves to be both fun and rewarding.
