Creative Agricultural Production and Marketing Seminar at NCYU to Praise Distinguished Farms and Managers

The Toucheng Farm in Yilan County, Puli Water Bamboo Shoot Farm in Nantou County, and Shilin Farm in Jhong Pu Township, Chiayi County win the Outstanding Farm Management Award Creative Agricultural Production and Marketing Seminar at NCYU to Praise Distinguished Farms and Managers
  In accolades of well-performing farms and farm managers, “2012 General Assembly and 12th Outstanding Farm Management Award Ceremony” kicked off at the International Conference Hall on the Lantan Campus, NCYU, on the afternoon of Mar. 20th. It is jointly organized by the Taiwan Farmers Management Association and Department of Agronomy, NCYU. In addition, the Creative Agricultural Production and Marketing Seminar is held to promote comprehensive discussion on creative agricultural management and brand strategies.

  The award ceremony was attended by NCYU President Chiou Yi-Yuan, Chiayi Deputy Mayor Lee Shek-June, and many other honorary guests from the Agri-Food Department and municipal governments of various counties. The Outstanding Farm Management Award aims to recognize the outstanding performance of the farms officially registered in Taiwan. There are three winners this year, including the Toucheng Farm in Yilan County, Puli Water Bamboo Shoot Farm in Nantou County, and Shilin Farm in Jhong Pu Township, Chiayi County. And to recognize their contribution to agricultural management, the Diverse Use of Tea Leaves Award goes to Cheng Xuan Fu Yi Farm in Ming Jen Township, while the Agricultural Product Sales Channel Expansion Award belongs to Puli Ming Huang Precision Farm in Nantou County.

  According to Hou Jin-Ri, associate professor of the Department of Agronomy, NCYU, as well as secretary-general of the Taiwan Farmers Management Association, all the three winners of the Outstanding Farm Management Award boast remarkable accomplishments in agricultural management. Headed by Zhuo Zhi-Hong, Toucheng Farm is a recreational farm known for innovative management. Offering a wide spectrum of hands-on agricultural experience activities, it attracts approximately 80,000 visitors each year, with its affiliated “winery cellar” enjoys an annual turnover of more than NT$100 million. During the score of years, it has grown into one of the pioneering recreational farms and set an example for its counterparts. Recognized for his distinguished and creative style in managing the winery cellar, Zhuo is employed by National Kaohsiung University of Hospitality and Tourism as part-time instructor, and selected by the Tourism Bureau as elitist of tourism in Taiwan, who will participate in international conferences on behalf of Taiwan.

   Xu Mei-Qi, chief of Puli Water Bamboo Shoot Farm in Nantou County, had helped his father manage the production and marketing of water bamboo shoots since graduation from senior high school. Thus he as accumulated immense practical experience and knowledge in the market demand, cold storage, sales, supply, marketing and distribution of water bamboo shoots. After over two decades’ efforts, his farm has boasted 13 official members and more than hundred sponsoring/cooperative members. Its turnover in 2011 surpassed NT$100 million.

  Shilin Farm is a local farm in Chiayi County known for producing edible black tree fungi. Zhuang Gui-Hong, head of the farm, has been devoted to precision farming of edible tree fungi for over 30 years. Based on his rich experience in management and progress in agricultural technology, he has greatly improved the yields and quality of edible tree fungi over the years. Also thanks to the unique day and night temperature differences in Chiayi County, the edible black tree fungi he cultivates is known far and wide for their soft but crispy taste.

  According to Chuang Yu-Long, director of the Association, Chen Jia-Long and his wife, both winners of the award for their outstanding performance in managing Cheng Xuan Fu Yi Farm in Ming Jen Township, are alumni of NCYU. They have been known for their management of tea business and marketing of tea beverages, which are well-received by customers. Besides, their business has hit the market in China and enjoyed stable growth in sales. Another recipient of the award, Yang Zhen-Huang, chief of Puli Ming Huang Precision Farm in Nantou County, has long dedicated himself to cultivation, packaging, wholesale and retail of mushrooms. Recently he is engaged in processing mushrooms into vegetarian meat floss products, which are widely loved by vegetarians.

  The two-day event, including the award ceremony and Creative Agricultural Production and Marketing Seminar, features the following keynote speeches: “Agricultural Brand Strategies and Creative Marketing” by Prof. Lee Huang-Chiu from National Chung Hsing University; “Vision of Combination of Organic Agriculture and Leisure Industry” by Chen Zhao-Lang, honorary professor of National Taiwan University; and “Application of Cultural Creativity and Experiential Marketing in the Field of Agricultural Enterprise Management” by Liu Yao-Zhong, assistant professor from NCYU. It also includes visits to Shilin Farm, famous for its innovative production of edible tree fungi, and U-Jia-Li Farm in Rueili Village, Meishan Rural Township, known for its integration of sales channels and production and marketing in tea business. Ending tomorrow, it aims to provide an exchange platform for the more-than-a-hundred attendees.
A song of outstanding Farm Management sang by the student of  Department of Agronomy, NCYU To recognize their contribution to agricultural management, the Diverse Use of Tea Leaves Award goes to Cheng Xuan Fu Yi Farm in Ming Jen Township, while the Agricultural Product Sales Channel Expansion Award belongs to Puli Ming Huang Precision Farm in Nantou County.
