Undergraduate Program

Department of Visual Arts

I. Development Policies and Characteristics:

      Our undergraduate program aims to improve students’ abilities of arts creation and art theory through the diversified curricula and teaching. Our program emphasizes not only the balance of traditional arts materials and technical skills but also integration of art creation and art theory. For future prospects, we will work on the research and promotion of arts education, visual arts, digital arts and design. We positively plan to establish the Arts Design Center.

II. Course Objectives:

1.To improve the creative abilities of visual arts.
2.To develop the professional knowledge of visual arts theory.
3.To cultivate students’ characters with visual arts education.
4.To enhance the skills of digital arts and design.

III. Basic Ability Index:

1.To develop students’ abilities of understanding of visual arts theory.
2.To enhance students’ knowledge of oriental arts history and western arts history.
3.To strengthen students’ performance of oriental and western painting.
4.To increase students’ abilities of printmaking and 3D formation.
5.To cultivate students’ creation of digital arts and design. 
6.To improve students’ character with visual arts education.
7.To help students have the theoretical aspects of arts and visual culture
8.To train students as professions of arts administration.


Credits Required for Graduation:

  Students are required to take a minimum of 128 credits before graduation (not including the credits in education courses)
(1)30 credits in courses of general education
(2)50 credits in required courses
(3)48 credits in elective courses offered by our department and 16 credits as a  
     maximum in other departments.
(4)Students in their third year of study will be divided into groups in elective courses. Students in each group are required to receive 16 credits and 12 credits in other groups. Students must complete 16 credits in elective theoretical courses before graduation.


Others:

All students from the Department of Fine Art are required to complete a minimum of 128 approved credit hours, of which 30 hours are general knowledge courses, 50 hours are required courses, and 48 hours are elective. The courses are grouped into two main clusters as listed in the following:

A.     Studio Art: 1. Chinese and Western painting: Drawing, Watercolor Painting, Oil Painting, Black Ink Painting, Calligraphy and etc…, 2. 3D and Engraving: Ceramics, 3D modeling, Sculpture, Mix Media, Engraving, Installation Art and etc…, 3. Computer Art and Design: 3D Painting and Application, Homepage Design and Application, Animation and Creation of Computer, Design and Construction and etc….

B.     Art Theory: 1. Basic Theory and Art History: Chinese Arts History, Western Arts History, Taiwanese Arts History, Psychology of Arts, Aesthetics, Art Criticism, Color Theory, Modern Art and Contemporary Art, Western and Eastern Art History, Taiwanese Art History, Chinese Art Theory, Folk Arts, Public Art, Sociology of Art, and Research Method and Thesis Writing, etc., 2. Art Education and Art Administration: Introduction to Arts Education, Child Art Developmental Theory, Visual Culture and Art Education, Psychology of Art, Stage Design, Cultural and Arts Policy, Art Administration and Management and etc.
